October Stitch Fix

I haven’t written about Stitch Fix lately, but I’ve still been getting my fixes. I hope to get back into a better habit of posting.  Last month my fix wasn’t very good.  I honestly only kept a shirt so I didn’t lose my $20 styling fee.  So this month, I decided to really do my part.  I posted on my fashion pinterest board and my stylist Alecia does her homework each month and checks. I just have to make her job easy by telling her what I want. She also reads my blog (hi Alicia!!), so she really gets an idea of what works best for me.

Before I go any further let me give you a run down of what Stitch Fix is. Stitch fix is an online styling service. You get your own personal stylist who handpicks a “fix” for you with five items. You get either clothing or accessories that are unique to your budget, and tastes. You’ll get three days to decide if you’re going to keep anything from your fix. The styling fee is $20 and that goes towards any purchase you end up making. If you  buy all 5 you get 25% off the entire order. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s so fun.  You can sign up to get fixes whenever you want, or get them sent to you monthly, even bi-weekly. It’s perfect for a busy mom like me who has no time to shop for clothes. You can learn more about signing up for your first fix here!

I told Alecia this month I was attending a fall outdoor wedding, so I needed an outfit for the wedding that would be warm and cozy. My preference is black and greys, is that tacky for weddings anymore? Do people still care?  The bride and groom are dear friends, and I know they know I’m not mourning their union..right?? Anyway, here’s how Alecia did this month.

Korbyn Geo Charm Layering Necklace

$28.00

necklace

I’m not a big fan of jewelry. My stylist knows this, but also knows I should have some kind of accessory. I’m resisting, but as you can see it’s not terrible. It’s not one of those super chunky necklaces I wouldn’t ever where.  Honestly, it’s tasteful and I just might wear it. Verdict: Kept

Giani Mixed Material Pullover Sweater

$58.00

sweatercollage

I love this color, and I love how the patterned fabric also is slimming because of where it is. My daughter thought the pattern looked like old curtains, hah!! She’s 10 though, and I love it. It fits perfectly. Verdict: Kept

Freya Maxi Dress

$84.00

dress2

I’m not a dress person, but I specifically asked for a dress for a wedding.  I had expected more than one dress to try, but had she sent more than one I don’t know that this fix would have been so fabulous. You’d expect a dress named after Freya to make you feel sexy, and it does! It’s slimming, the neck line is perfect and I’ll be able to wear it again later on to my husband’s company party in December. This one and only dress she sent was all she needed to send.  It was absolutely perfect. I just seriously can’t believe this dress! Verdict: Kept!!! (with enthusiasm!)

Bralie French Terry Asymmetrical Cape

$68.00

When I first pulled this out of the box I was excited, but then I tried it on and wasn’t sure what to think.  I think if I’m not careful it will make me look considerably heavier than I am. I had to play around with how I wore it. It grew on me and now I wear it everywhere!  I absolutely love it. The only thing I wish is that it had pockets. Maybe if I have free time (hahaha…year right) I can add some pockets to it myself. Verdict: Kept

Kate Boyfriend Jean

$88.00

jeanscollage

When I first read my card telling me what I had received I was shocked to see the Kate boyfriend jeans included.  I had received them in my February Fix, and I was confused as to why she was sending them again. I almost dismissed them thinking that I wouldn’t keep them at all.  They were the last thing I tried on, and that’s when I realized..oh these are different! She is paying attention! They came rolled up, and maybe I’ll roll them up again come spring or summer.  In the fall I need to where them with boots, so I unrolled them. The holes that were present in the first pair were much less pronounced in this pair.  There were only a few little details in the pockets, and I can live with that.  Specially when I look at the receipt and realize that if I get everything, I’m pretty much getting these jeans for free.  You keep everything in the fix, and they give you at 25% discount. I’ve been getting Stitch Fix for a year, and I’ve never kept everything before!! Verdict: Kept

So, for the first time ever I kept everything!! Things I’ve learned, keep your stylist up to date on your pinterest board.  They do check! Make sure you tell them detailed what you like and what you don’t.  They do listen!

Something to know: I am not being paid for this post, I just really enjoy Stitch Fix. I think it would be great for any of my readers who don’t have time to shop, or people like me who can’t get past jeans and a t-shirt. If you sign up for stitch fix using one of the links I provided in this post it helps me earn Stitch Fix credits towards my next fix.  You can earn them too once you sign up for your first fix. February Stitch Fix Review

Monday, February 2nd, 2015

februarystitchfixbanner

My February Stitch Fix was probably one of my most exciting and disappointing fixes yet.  It was dramatic. I laughed, I cried…ok, maybe not. I always kinda sneak and see what I have coming when I get the notification, and I was pretty excited to see that I couldn’t google lots of what was coming.  It wasn’t popping up in other people’s fixes.  New stuff!!

When I got my box, I was so excited to see the blues.  I love the color palate that was chosen this month.  Loving these blues!! When I opened the box I genuinely thought this would be the month that I’d buy everything in the box. This was the laughing part.  I was so happy!  I mean check these colors out!

Here’s what I got:

maxwellbraidedzipbottomtote

Urban Expressions Maxwell Braided Zip Bottom Tote $48.00

I had requested again another purse.  I think I’m done requesting purses for now.  I asked for one that would be big enough to also be used as a diaper bag since I now have a 5 month old. They obliged but it wasn’t my thing.  I wanted to like it. I wanted the third time to be the charm, but charmed I was not. I didn’t mind the blue, I actually think I liked the blue.  I think it was the brass fittings, and the over all style of the bag. Genuinely, I’m not sure.  I didn’t love it. Verdict: Returned

bovinadolmanknittop

Bovina Dolman Knit Top $58.00

I had a love/hate relationship with this top. Sometimes I liked it, then other times I felt like it added 15lbs to my frame. I also wasn’t sure about the bottom half of the back being different fabric than the rest of the top. Being so unsure about it made me not want to spend almost $60 on it. Verdict: Returned

ArvinKnitTopcollage

Laila Jayde Arvin Knit Top $54.00

I don’t even know where to begin with this top.  I’m going to be real with you guys.  Since my last Fix, I lost 10lbs. I’m slowly working towards my pre-pregger weight, and this top makes me look bigger than I did last month. It easily added 20lbs to the way I look.  On top of that, it was weird and see through. I struggled to find something appropriate to wear underneath it and the style cards were no help. They didn’t even mention about wearing something under it. I threw on the nude cami that I got in my January Fix just to keep this family friendly. It also flared out in some weird way…this was beyond fail. I think maybe this shirt was meant for someone who was petite.  It really didn’t flatter AT ALL. Verdict: GTFO

Kut from the Kloth Kate Distressed Boyfriend Jean $78.00

kutfromtheklothjeansThese jeans were a hard decision. They fit very nicely, and I felt they were very flattering. They were just right in regards to fit. Not too snug, not too lose. That alone would have convinced me these needed to stay.  My husband and my best friend though were my voice of reason. Reason 1: They had holes in them. At some point or another all my jeans end up with holes, I garden, I hike, and I play with my kids.  It just happens. To purchase jeans with pre-made holes just didn’t make sense.  Reason 2: I’m in the process of losing weight. In another month or two those jeans will hopefully be too big. So then I’d have baggy jeans with holes in them. Verdict: Returned

berneenprinteddolmantop

Berneen Printed Dolman Sleeve Top $58.00

There you go!  Now you might be able to tell I’ve shed a little weight since last month. With a sea of no’s I think I finally found my yes.  This is very similar to 41 Hawthorn Dolman top I got a few months ago. I loved the Navy and Teal colors, and the pattern was interesting with out being over powering.  Easily dressed up for work, or worn with jeans for casual. Finally, something in this fix that was flattering and sensible. Verdict: Kept

I had such high hopes for this fix. I loved the colors, but I felt like nothing was fitting together until the last top. It may surprise you, but I requested the same stylist again next month.  I asked her to look at my blog (hi!), and I hope that the potential I see shows next month.

November Stitch Fix Review

Monday, November 3rd, 2014

Stitchbanner14

I have been wanting to try Stitch Fix for so so incredibly long. When I first read about it I was pregnant with my little man, and it didn’t make sense for me to invest in good quality clothes that I’d stretch out with my big belly. Now that I’m two month’s post-baby I thought I’d give it a try.  I’m so glad I did.  What a fun experience it is!

Let me back up a bit just in case you haven’t heard of Stitchfix before. Stitchfix is an online styling service. You get your own personal stylist who handpicks a “fix” for you with five items. You get either clothing or accessories that are unique to your budget, and tastes. You’ll get three days to decide if you’re going to keep anything from your fix. It’s perfect for a busy mom like me who has no time to shop for clothes. You can learn more about signing up for your first fix Here!

stitchbag

Kacie Half Flap Crossbody Bag — $48.00

I struggled with this.  I had specifically asked for a fall bag, and they obliged with this cute black bag.  I had been going back and forth whether to keep it or not because I liked it, but I’m not sure I was ready to part with $50 for it. I loved the inside, I loved that it was vegan. Had it been half the price I would have kept it. It was a great bag, but for the money I had to send it back. Verdict: Returned.

 skirtcollage

Alondra Ruched Pencil Skirt — $58.00

They sent me this skirt, size medium and I will be the first to tell you I’m not a skirt person. I only own one other skirt.  However, every year about this time of year I start panicking. I end up going shopping for dresses because my husband’s company hosts a very upscale Christmas party. It’s a stressful thing for me to try on dress after dress. It fits my curves in all the right ways, and I also love that it stretches so as I continue to shed off this extra baby weight, it will still fit. Verdict: Kept.

sweaterstitch

Gradon Sheer Raglan Seam Sweater — $58.00

This was a simple, safe black sweater and I really loved it. It’s simplicity makes it a timeless sweater that I know I will be able to wear for years. It was forgiving on my mama pooch, and really versatile.  It looked nice with jeans, or it could be dressed up with that skirt up there for my husband’s Christmas party (I sweat this party, you know). Even though it’s pricey compared to what you’d typically find in my wardrobe I know I will wear it for years. Verdict: Kept

stitchcard

Caspian Scallop Trim Cardigan — $68.00

This cardigan I think was my absolute favorite piece from this fix.  This nursing momma dresses in layers so I don’t show the world my stomach pudge when I’m feeding my two month old son. My husband teases me because since opening the box I have worn it every day. I had to consider the scallop, I wondered at first if it seemed too old fashioned…vintage..grandma-ey? It grew on me. It really grew on me. The scallop in the end made it feminine and gave it personality. It’s super warm too, perfect for this upcoming winter. Verdict: Kept

pants

Emer High Waisted Tall Trouser — $98.00

These trousers were very basic, slim and timeless.  The key word here though is slim.  I poured myself into them, and the only reason I could was because they were stretchy.  I couldn’t even post a picture of me in them because I had a muffin top that topped all muffin tops ever. Every item in this stitch was a medium, but this one was on the smaller side of medium.  If I had to guess, I would have placed them at a size 4 or a 6.  I haven’t been that tiny since… ever, and specially not that tiny two months after having a baby. Had they been a larger size I would have considered them, but for almost $100 I would have had to really love them.  They were so small I really can’t think that I can give a good review of them. Verdict: Returned

So 3 out of 5 on my very first Fix. I’m so pleased with my first fix, I’ve heard they can be a disaster when they’re trying to figure you out.  This I feel was a very safe conservative fix, so now that they’re getting to know me they might take more risks.  I’d like to see more flexible items shipped to me, hopefully they’ll send stuff that will be flexible as I slowly get back down to my pre-pregnancy weight.
